There was a time when there were not many first class performing arts schools around in the UK. This situation is changing and Britain is building a reputation for offering an excellent curriculum. In New York City, there is already a tradition of preparing students for a career in the entertainment and arts industries.

The New York High School for the Performing Arts is well known from its depiction in the Fame movie and subsequent TV series. The school merged with a sister school and is now known as the Fiorello H. Guardia High School of Music, Art & Performing Arts, based in Manhattan. The prospectus includes programs for Dance, Drama, Visual Arts, Vocal, Instrumental Music, and Technical Theatre. In addition to their chosen arts subject, students must study a required curriculum, including English, Math, Science, History, Language and Physical Education. This Performing Arts School (from the original school) has produced an impressive number of alumni over the years, including Laura Nyro, Suzanne Vega, Jennifer Aniston, Adrien Brody, and Wesley Snipes.

The Juillard School in New York City is housed at the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts. It has an international reputation for its program of dance, drama, and music. The school’s alumni are particularly well represented in the world of classical music and jazz. Jazz trumpeter Miles Davis, cellist Yo Yo Ma, and minimalist composer Philip Glass all attended Juillard. Famous actors have also come through its doors, including Kelsey Grammar, Kevin Spacey and Robin Williams. All music students at this Performing Arts School must study sight singing and music theory, along with their chosen instrument. The Juillard is well known for its school orchestras, jazz orchestras, string quartet and vocal and choral groups. The Juillard Orchestra represented the school when touring China in 2008. The school has a collection of manuscripts and scores by Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Chopin and others. The Brit School in London for 4 – 19 year olds is the only Performing Arts School in the UK that is state funded. Students can study Performing Arts, Media, Art and Design, and Technology. Facilities are top notch with a school theatre, dance studios, and television and radio studios. The annual Brit Awards for music raises money to help with the running of the school. A number of successful female singers have graduated, including Amy Winehouse, Leona Lewis, Kate Nash, Katie Melua and Adele.

When Paul McCartney’s old school building in Liverpool fell derelict, he joined forces with Mark Featherstone-Witty (the founder of the Brit School), to create a new Performing Arts School. The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) has been a great success. The prospectus consists of nine BA Hons. Degrees, and Post Graduate Diplomas and a Master of Arts program. Subjects covered include Music, Dance, Acting, Sound Technology, Arts Management and Theatre Design. There are also weekend classes for children aged 4 – 19 years old. A number of well known musicians and actors have appeared as guest speakers, including John Hurt, Nitin Sawhney, Terence Stamp, Robin Gibb and Joan Armatrading.

Going to a talented and gifted school was quite a privilege, but it also involved quite a few more responsibilities than other kids had. When I was growing up, most talented and gifted schools cost an arm and a leg. My parents didn’t have a lot of money, so we were lucky we were able to find a gifted charter school in the area. It was actually not quite in our immediate area. It was a good half hour drive each way to school – not a problem for me, but quite an inconvenience for my parents who both worked 50 hours a week or more. Nonetheless, they wanted the best for me, so they made the commitment to drive me there. There was no bus that went there, so they had to carpool every morning. That meant that I would have to get there an hour before school and stay an hour late.

Of course, like any good talented and gifted school, the academy I went to gave out a lot of homework, so I made use of that extra time in school. It meant that, by the time I got home at night, I had a good start on my homework and that, if I did not get everything done before I went to sleep, I still had an hour to do it in the morning. At first it seemed like an inconvenience to get to school early and leave late, but soon I saw it was a blessing. And classes at that talented and gifted school were out of this world. I was able to move way ahead in math class, taking courses I wouldn’t have been able to for a couple years in public school. And the electives were even better. I got to study computer programming, learn a little bit about welding and construction, and even study some basic tracking and survival skills in an enrichment program. Perhaps the best part of it, however, was the other talented and gifted resources.

The school had one of the best libraries I had ever seen, and one of the most helpful librarians I have ever met. He would help find resources on almost any subject you can imagine, and he was always there to listen to any questions and give you helpful answers. The instructors were also pretty great too – at least some of them. There were teachers at the talented and gifted school who would be your friends as much as your instructors, giving you helpful advice and academic counseling. Some of them had engaged in other fascinating project before becoming teachers, so you could get help with out of school projects as well. I had professors, for example, with backgrounds in engineering. They came in handy when I wanted to design and build my own robot!

It is universally acknowledged that Harvard Medical School is the leading medical school in the United States. Part of Harvard University, it was established in 1782 and is the third oldest such school in the USA. Various other prestigious organizations are affiliated with the school, such as the Massachusetts General Hospital. The campus in the Mission Hill neighborhood of Boston offers the best amenities and academic staff. The physical environment is inspirational with its quadrangle of neo-classical marble buildings. Campus tours are organized for potential candidates to the school and tours for the public can be undertaken during the summer months. The list of alumni is impressive with many graduates rising to the highest levels in medical research, surgery and clinical care. Scientists, academics and physicians are all represented.

Students can choose to specialize in a wide range of disciplines and departments include Neurobiology, Microbiology, Genetics, Biological Chemistry, Cell Biology and Molecular Pharmacology. There is also a Center for Blood Research at Harvard Medical School. It’s not all work at the school however and there are many opportunities for leisure activities and socializing. There is a long list of student organizations to join, including the Athletic Club, Soccer Club, Art and Literature Magazine, Life Drawing and the Music Society.

Pastoral care is important to the school and students can seek advice on their career choice through the Student Affairs Office. The Student Health Plan provides cover for dental insurance and disability insurance, and makes sure that students with disabilities have the services they require.

Students can study in the best classrooms and laboratories, using state of the art research facilities. The Francis A.Countway Library is an important resource and has one of the largest biomedical book collections in the country. The library also contains thousands of rare books. Harvard Medical School encourages its students and graduates to participate in projects in their local community. Many students also involve themselves in medical projects across America and overseasStudents have the choice of living off campus or at the residential Vanderbilt Hall. In addition to student rooms, there is a library, a dark room, music rooms, a computer room and study lounges. The Athletic Facility at the Hall includes a gymnasium, outdoor tennis court, squash courts, a fitness and aerobic room and weight rooms. Some students prefer to cook their own meals and there are well-equipped kitchens for them to use. Other students go to the canteen for their meals.

There are many concerns today about obesity in young people and one of the Harvard Medical School professors has addressed this problem in a book, titled The Harvard Medical School Guide to Healthy Eating for Kids. Written by W.Allan Walker, the Professor of Pediatrics and director of the Division of Nutrition, it discusses diet for babies, toddlers and so on, looking at weight control, exercise and planning meals.

If you’re still in high school but plan to go on to college, you should start planning now. How to choose a college? There’s much to be considered. You’ve got financial considerations, location, your current academic record and which college is best for the pursuit of your chosen career. Even if you’re just a sophomore now, you can still address some of the points to give you a head start.

Most high school kids aren’t really sure of what they want to do for a living or what career path is right for them. There are online career aptitude tests which reveal areas of strength and list careers which match your skills and interests. These tests are designed to give you guidance on professions that you’ll do well in and enjoy.

If you have several ideas for careers, that’s good. You have plenty of time to investigate before nailing down your major. Let’s say you have an interest in being a veterinarian. Try volunteering at the animal shelter. You can also try for a job in a veterinarian’s office. The experience will look good on your resume and can help you decide how to choose a college in that profession. If you find that this is not a career you’d enjoy for many years, you’ve lost nothing. Go on to your next career idea. You can make an appointment with your school counselor to discuss your academic record. If your grades are good now, you want to keep that going. Ask about scholarships and grants that may be available. If your grades need to improve, your counselor can provide leads on tutoring and other avenues which will keep you on track. Your counselor can also provide invaluable insights on how to choose a college.

Financing your education is essential. A college education is costly, particularly if you go straight to a four year university or college. Attending a community college for your first two years makes good sense for a number of reasons. A community college is much less expensive than a four year college. A community college offers a good social transition from high school to college life. Most of your credits may be transferred to a four year college. A junior college also gives you a chance to decide which career path is the right one for you. Your college counselor can help you choose electives which give you a taste of a field of study, for example, botany. Should you decide botany is not for you, the credit for the class will still transfer and fulfill a science requirement for your degree.

There is no set correct way on how to choose a college. Every person has a different idea of success and happiness. The best advice is to talk to counselors and teachers for guidance in your particular situation. Good luck!

Finding the right tutoring services can be very difficult. Some learning centers make promises that they just can’t keep, while other ones are so obscure that it is almost impossible to hear about them unless you have connections. I used to provide tutor services at a learning center, so I know all about it. We were actually a small tutoring center. We were not very well known, and we were in the same town as Sylvan learning Center. They had a lot of buzz, while we were almost invisible.

Nonetheless, we were very popular with the parents of our students, and other parents who had heard about us through them. Learning centers usually work in one of two ways. The big ones, of course, work through advertising. They have a huge nationwide network, make a lot of money, and can afford to advertise. The smaller learning centers, however, work mostly through networking. Instead of buying services of a set program designed by the learning center, the parents are paying for the services of an individual tutor. They know all the tutors at these learning centers, and most of the tutors don’t tend to go away very quickly. That way, they can count on having the same help for their kids year after year.Working as a tutor was one of the most rewarding things that I ever did. At first, I was surprised at how hard the work was. I thought that it would be an easy way to make money, but it was anything but easy. From the first day, I had to invent curriculum on the fly. It wasn’t one of those learning centers where they hire a math tutors or an English tutors for a certain grade level. At our place, everyone had to do everything. Some days, we would help the kids with their homework, while other days we would study areas that they were having problems in. With a lot of these kids, they have such bad learning disabilities that it was a struggle just to keep up.

Nevertheless, through constant hard work and dedication, we were able to make big improvements in their lives. When they came to us with good grades, it was such a proud moment for me. I was able to help kids who could barely read advance to become fine, articulate students with interesting well-developed ideas. This is the joy of working in learning centers. There is nothing quite like it.

A career in food service and hospitality can be very rewarding and the students at the Culinary Institute of America are fortunate in enjoying the best facilities with courses taught by certified master chefs. The institute, also known as CIA, began in 1946 and has four campuses; Hyde Park in New York, Greystone at St.Helena in the Napa Valley, California, San Antonio in Texas and a branch in New York City.

The institute is a not for profit organization and offers Associate and Bachelor Degrees in Culinary Arts and Baking and Pastry Arts. The Hyde Park and St.Helena campuses also provide courses in management and wine and host conferences and run distance-learning programs. The Culinary Institute of America students learn in well equipped kitchens and bakeshops and also gain valuable hands on experience in the institute’s own campus restaurants, where they learn to prepare and serve food to an appreciative public, working in the kitchens and front of house.

There are five restaurants, each one distinctive from the other. The American Bounty is a restaurant with a menu of regional American cuisine, St.Andrew’s Café is informal with a contemporary menu, and the Apple Pie Bakery Café serves soup, sandwiches and baked goods. Classic French food is served at the Escoffier Restaurant and the Ristorante Caterina de’Medici serves Italian dishes. The culinary Institute of America therefore is not content with keeping its students in the classroom. They leave the college with a confident air, knowing that they have received the best preparation for their chosen careers. One of the most famous members of the alumni is the chef and author, Anthony Bourdain, famous for writing Kitchen Confidential. The college is more than an organization for higher learning. It is also a successful commercial enterprise with its own range of branded houseware. Items from the range can be bought on the web store and categories include cookware, bakeware, cutlery, kitchen utensils and gadgets, weigh scales, timers and thermometers.

There is also a range of entertaining and informative cookbooks, published by the Culinary Institute of America, covering various skills and techniques. These include a collection of favorite recipes from the college. Other titles include Chocolates and Confections: Formula, Theory, and Technique for the Artisan Confectioner, Hors D’Oeuvres at Home with The Culinary Institute of America, Baking and Pastry; Mastering the Art and Craft, and Breakfasts and Brunches. These books give everyone the opportunity to learn from the best.

If you’re a high school student, are you planning to go on to college? If not, you need to rethink your goals! Yes, college can be an expensive proposition, but there are many ways to tackle the financial obstacles. Although it may sound like a tired cliche, it’s nonetheless true that a college education is the best investment you can make in your future. Here we’ll outline the arguments in favor of pursuing your college education, while dispelling the myths and excuses commonly used as arguments against higher education.

Many kids regard school as a tedious, boring interruption to other more interesting lifestyles. You’re anxious to be out on your own and figure that if you get out in the working world, you’ll attain more independence and surely be able to advance, without the benefit of a college education. All you need to do to determine the truth or falsity of this premise is to check your local newspaper listings.

Jobs which do not require a college education pay far less than those offered to college grads. Entry level jobs available to high school graduates are overwhelmingly offered at minimum wage. Chances are, you haven’t previously had to support yourself, paying for housing, utilities, food and clothing. A minimum wage scale is a subsistence wage and allows no room for extras. The best you can hope for is to advance to a supervisory position within a year or two, with wages only slightly better than your entry level start. Here’s a simple exercise that proves the point. Check your newspaper for housing. Choose a few ads which are in safe neighborhoods listing the amenities you need. Average the prices, including deposits and other fees. Ask friends in similar housing what they pay for their utilities. Add in a monthly food budget of at least $175, as well as the cost of entertainment and clothing. Don’t forget car insurance and gas! Now figure your paycheck, based on 40 hours per week with a 15% deduction for taxes. Can you live on that? Even with a roommate, it’s tough. You’ll be walking into a situation with far less freedom than you now enjoy.

Let’s say your circumstances don’t allow you to continue living with your parents, so you must sustain yourself while getting a college education. Talk with your school counselor and your Human Resources department. Explain your situation. You’ll be shocked at the number of grants and scholarships available to help you get a college education. Community colleges now offer distance learning, whereby you can work and attend classes online. Sure, progress may be slower, but the benefits of a college education last a lifetime. Even while working a full time job, you can easily earn a two-year degree through online coursework within three years.

There’s just no excuse to bypass the lifelong advantages you’ll gain with a college education!

More and more individuals are choosing to attend a university these days. Much of this is related to the job market and the salaries offered to college graduates in comparison to what’s offered to those who merely have a high school diploma. In this day and age it’s quite difficult to make a substantial income without a bachelor’s degree or higher. Therefore it’s only natural to seek out the right university of community college by performing simple and convenient college searches on the web. To get started, all you need is an Internet connection.

Take a moment to think about what it is you’d like to be doing ten years from now. This is always a good starting point once you’ve completed high school. Sky is the limit at this point! Maybe you see yourself as a computer programmer, physician or school teacher. Regardless, there is a college program out there for you. Luckily online college searches will help you find that right school. A major part of this process is knowing what each university has to offer in regards to education and majors. On the flip side, if you harbor a strong interest in graphic design, then you should naturally be performing college searches to pinpoint the best graphic design schools in your area and abroad. Find out what each college or technical arts school has to offer someone with your interests. This will help you decide in the end which school or university is ideal for you and your future plans. College searches can be limited to your particular state or be as widespread as you prefer. so much depends on the notion of whether or not you wish to relocate or commute. If you are willing to relocate to another state or country, keep in mind the cost of tuition and what your living expenses may be. This will play a significant role in the choices you make while performing routine college searches. Obviously if there’s no way to afford a certain university, you might want to consider choosing an alternative. When all is said and done, it’s imperative to select a college that’s able to offer you the degree you need to proceed with your future career.
