Can You Take Psychology Online Courses?

There are some great programs online that you can use to further your education. Though there are always going to be some courses of study that require you to attend a college, some can be done from home and completed almost exclusively without ever stepping foot on a campus. Some of these are basic degrees, but some are also extended degrees. When it comes to psychology, programs vary. If you are going to take psychology online courses, there are a few things of which you should consider.

What is wonderful about psychology online courses is that these can be done when you have the extra time. You don’t have to attend day classes if you do not want to, and if you have to do an internship, you can do one in your own community. Some schools that offer psychology online courses accept members and students from all over the country because those students do not need to show up in person. Find out if your program fits those requirements or not.

However, when you take psychology online courses, you had better be sure that you have the time. You can have a full time job and children and take these, but that does not always work out. Some going for advanced psychology online courses are going to find that they have a lot of work to do and they do not have any leeway in doing it. You could have ten to twelve papers due a week, and you will not get a time extension in most cases. You should look into the work load and consider your time in life when you decide you can do it or if you can not. Continue reading Can You Take Psychology Online Courses?

Child Development Psychology

I have always considered myself to be a good parent, but I never knew how many things I didn’t know about my little ones until I took a class in child development psychology. I have been interested in child development and psychology for as long as I can remember so, when I went back to school, it was only natural that I get a degree specializing in that field. I had figured that, as an astute student of human nature, I would be well within my comfort zone. The joke was on me when the child development psychology class was more strange and foreign than I could have imagined.

Not that it wasn’t a fascinating class. It can be a real joy to be challenged, and I felt challenged very day. Child psychology, I learned in that class, is anything but static. From day to day, week to week, and month to month, children are learning and becoming better, more sophisticated thinkers. That means that the interests, fears, and obsessions that a kid has one day will not necessarily even be a factor within a month or two. Kids come up with phobias, only to lose them just as quickly. They get so interested in a toy that they can’t put it down, only to get bored with it all of the sudden and never touch it again. These are some of the paradoxes of child development psychology. Child Art Education

I was lucky enough to go to a school with a great child art education program. I did not know it at the time, but it was actually one of the best in the state. Only the art magnet schools were better, and not by much according to most people. Art was integrated into everything that we did. We used it as part of geometry, history, botany and natural science, and even literature. I was only average by the standards of my schools child art education program, and yet my friends from different schools were blown away by what I could draw and paint.

When I had a kid of my own, however, I was surprised by how poor the child art education was in his school. It had a lot to do with the political climate in the state. child art educational funding had been being cut back because of the recession. A lot of people felt that it was a luxury that our kids would have to do without. I thought that was a horrible way of thinking about it. Art and art appreciation should be part of everyone’s experience. I hated to think of my kid growing up without the child art education I grew up with.

I was friends with another parent at the school who happened to be somewhat of an expert on the subject. She had actually studied early childhood art education in school as part of her degree, and she felt as strongly about it as I did. We got into a long discussion about it, and she agreed to help me to start an advocacy group. We decided to do all that we could to make people in the state aware of the importance of child art education. Continue reading Child Art Education

You’ve got financial considerations, location, your current academic record and which college is best for the pursuit of your chosen career. Even if you’re just a sophomore now, you can still address some of the points to give you a head start.

Most high school kids aren’t really sure of what they want to do for a living or what career path is right for them. Try volunteering at the animal shelter. You can also try for a job in a veterinarian’s office. Getting A Literature Review.

It is amazing how quickly temptation will grab the souls of the desperate. I am not talking about someone starving, overcome with unrequited love, or subject to some other classical plight. I am talking about myself –  a graduate student at the end of my rope, with an angry adviser breathing down my neck. My problems all started with a literature review. You see, literature reviews have never been my strong suit. I am great at coming up with new ideas, and I’m also pretty good at synthesizing ideas from a few examples of diverging viewpoints. Once I’m confronted with a large body of literature on a topic, however, I rapidly lose focus. There is no other way to explain it: I freeze.

I tried looking at examples of sample literature reviews online, but they weren’t helpful. The ones that people were showing for free were just not written at a professional level. Writing a review of literature in linguistics is uniquely challenging. From the outside, many people miss this, but the field of linguistics is an extremely divisive academic pursuit. Basically, people are either with Chomsky or against Chomsky. Everyone acts as if their opinion is the only valid one. If you are like me – someone willing to draw bits and pieces from both sides – everyone sees you as a traitor. It is almost impossible to synthesize the work of East Coast and West Coast linguists into a coherent whole. I tried and tried, but I failed. I tried, in fact, until I almost failed my class. Finding the right tutoring services.

Finding the right tutoring services can be very difficult. Some learning centers make promises that they just can’t keep, while other ones are so obscure that it is almost impossible to hear about them unless you have connections. I used to provide tutor services at a learning center, so I know all about it. We were actually a small tutoring center. We were not very well known, and we were in the same town as Sylvan learning Center. They had a lot of buzz, while we were almost invisible.

Nonetheless, we were very popular with the parents of our students, and other parents who had heard about us through them. Learning centers usually work in one of two ways. The big ones, of course, work through advertising. They have a huge nationwide network, make a lot of money, and can afford to advertise. The smaller learning centers, however, work mostly through networking. Instead of buying services of a set program designed by the learning center, the parents are paying for the services of an individual tutor. They know all the tutors at these learning centers, and most of the tutors don’t tend to go away very quickly. That way, they can count on having the same help for their kids year after year. Part time jobs for students are plentiful! Knowing where and how to look is the trick!

While many household breadwinners may be struggling to keep the family income at an acceptable level, it’s somewhat surprising to realize that students are now in pretty good shape in the job market. However, when you take a closer look, it makes sense. Employers who may previously have employed full time people might now have downsized staff, with an eye to managing more efficient and cost effective operations. This isn’t good news for people who need a full time income, but it’s a boon to students. Part time jobs for students are actually plentiful. If you’re a student, let’s see how you can capitalize on this job trend.

Cultivating flexibility is one major key to success in the part time jobs for student market. Unlike your Mom or Dad, you can adjust your class schedule such that you’re available for odd shifts, sometimes of short duration or even split shifts. For example, you have classes from 8am until noon, with an afternoon free before your last class at 7pm. Including travel time, you have at least five hours you can work each day. You can grab lunch and then work that odd 1-6pm shift. That employer will have a hard time attracting full-timers for such a schedule. For you, it’s easy money, sufficient for your needs.

Major corporations are advertising part time jobs for students which offer full time benefits for part time work, and sometimes, educational assistance amounting to thousands of dollars per year! Flex-time schedules are now a popular incentive to attract you. Continue reading Part time jobs for students are plentiful! Knowing where and how to look is the trick!

The value of a college education cannot be overrated

If you’re a high school student, are you planning to go on to college? If not, you need to rethink your goals! Yes, college can be an expensive proposition, but there are many ways to tackle the financial obstacles. Although it may sound like a tired cliche, it’s nonetheless true that a college education is the best investment you can make in your future. Here we’ll outline the arguments in favor of pursuing your college education, while dispelling the myths and excuses commonly used as arguments against higher education.

Many kids regard school as a tedious, boring interruption to other more interesting lifestyles. You’re anxious to be out on your own and figure that if you get out in the working world, you’ll attain more independence and surely be able to advance, without the benefit of a college education. All you need to do to determine the truth or falsity of this premise is to check your local newspaper listings.

Jobs which do not require a college education pay far less than those offered to college grads. Entry level jobs available to high school graduates are overwhelmingly offered at minimum wage. Chances are, you haven’t previously had to support yourself, paying for housing, utilities, food and clothing. A minimum wage scale is a subsistence wage and allows no room for extras. The best you can hope for is to advance to a supervisory position within a year or two, with wages only slightly better than your entry level start.
